1.   Paeniu called on Australia to drop its opposition to setting uniform greenhouse limits when negotiations resume at a major international conference in Kyoto, Japan, in December.

2.   As a major coal exporter, Australia has sought exemption from greenhouse gas emission limits, proposing instead differentiated targets that would allow some countries to increase greenhouse emissions.

3.   Australia will not obey any uniform greenhouse gas emission limits if they would impede multi-million dollar energy development deals, the Resources and Energy Minister said Tuesday.

4.   Gould was backed by the Australian government, which said Wednesday self-regulation among Australian companies which had committed to greenhouse limits was working.
