1.   The Socialist League began to find itself in the same critical relationship with the Labour Party which had forced its predecessor, the ILP, to disaffiliate.

2.   Koirala, who came to power in March after forcing his predecessor from office, has been prime minister twice previously.

3.   The demonstration was the first large union protest against President Eduardo Duhalde since he assumed office in January, after deadly street riots forced his predecessor from power.

4.   Yilmaz came to power eight months ago, after the generals forced his predecessor, Islamic-minded Necmettin Erbakan, out of power.

5.   Much of the wave of public anger had been directed at Duhalde, who assumed power after popular unrest forced his predecessor out of office in December.
