1.   Aristide, the populist priest, is widely expected to run, and is favored to win.

2.   Posthumus has not yet set up a candidate committee but is expected to run, and so far has no primary opponents.

3.   Jospin, a Socialist, has not official announced his candidacy but is widely expected to run against conservative President Jacques Chirac in the spring presidential race.

4.   The balloting, in which Hasina is expected to run, is scheduled for October.
