1.   Much of New Jersey was placed under a drought warning Friday by the Delaware River Basin Commission.

2.   New York City and most New Jersey counties have been under a drought warning since late January.

3.   Northeastern New Jersey remained under a drought warning, with water-use restrictions, for a third day.

4.   Wednesday, New York Gov. George Pataki is expected to declare a drought warning for New York City and much of the lower third of the state.

5.   Whitman had hoped to avert the need for restrictions by announcing a drought warning on Monday and asking for voluntary conservation.
