1. -- The first prototypes of Japanese digital video disk systems, based on competing standards backed separately by Sony and Pioneer, will be demonstrated this year. 2. Disk braking systems are designed to create a frictional force on the rotors, which revolve in tandem with the wheels, retarding the motion of the vehicle. 3. IBM also pioneered disk storage systems for large computers, but EMC grabbed leadership of that market. 4. In the coming months disk storage systems will be further stressed, said HighGround marketing vice president Thomas. 5. Iomega Corp., based in Roy, Utah, makes computer disk storage systems. 6. No surprise that lots of other companies are imitating the idea, and rolling out their own high-capacity removable disk systems. 7. The disk system can store an entire feature-length film on a platter the size of a compact disk. 8. The move comes even as Matsushita and Sony face off over another format battle over digital video disk systems. 9. The new systems use a system called Fibre Channel, which allows fast transfers of data between computers and disk storage systems. 10. There, a half-century ago, IBM began research that would lead to the first rotating disk system for storing computer data. |
