4.   Deputy President Thabo Mbeki on Thursday called on South Africans who rallied together to defeat apartheid to now join hands to combat crime, poverty and joblessness.

5.   Provincial ANC official Jacob Zuma said compared the Zulu attack to the struggle to defeat apartheid.

6.   Former Nobel peace laureate Desmond Tutu said Sunday South Africa needed to summon up the spirit and determination that defeated apartheid in the battle against AIDS.
