1.   John Roberts, executive director of the Massachusetts chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, decried the proposal to reinstate civil commitments for the sexually dangerous.

3.   Opponents, mostly Democrats but including a handful of Republicans, decried the proposal as harmful to injured citizens.

4.   Silicon Valley firms like Intel Corp. have decried that proposal.

5.   Cabbies bearing banners decrying the proposals marched through the streets of Rome to the Piazza Venezia in the heart of the city.

6.   The protesters also decried a proposal by the National Bureau of Investigation to arrest suspects without warrants as well as plans to introduce a national identification system.
