1.   Everyone else in the camp wore much-darned wool and cotton stockings.

2.   Her thick brown cotton stockings were bunched around her thin ankles, her legs were blue.

3.   As a child, she wore high-button shoes and in the winter long underwear under long cotton stockings and black sateen bloomers.

4.   When they met again, at the home of a colleague, she was sporting brown cotton stockings and unwashed hair, and she charmed everybody in the room.
