1.   The mighty Red Army that many once feared could roll across the plains of northern Europe today cannot even contain an insurgency within its own borders.

2.   Trying to contain the insurgency, the peacekeepers have also detained suspected rebels who have ventured back and forth across the Kosovo-Serbia boundary.

3.   Egyptian officials had exulted for months that the insurgency had been contained in rural southern Egypt, far from the capital and major tourist attractions.

4.   The government has largely contained the insurgency by increasing security measures, especially in southern provinces, and by arresting thousands of suspected militants and putting hundreds on trial.
