1.   In both the music business and the consumer electronics business, a whole lot of shaking out has been going on.

2.   Although Jalkut will oversee the network of the combined company, the consumer phone business will be run by James G. Cullen, a vice chairman of Bell Atlantic.

3.   Analysts have asked the company to jettison its consumer electronics business, and some would like to see it leave auto parts manufacturing.

4.   And Fisk, the scientist, got the big prize, leadership of the core consumer business.

5.   Analysts said it made sense for Raytheon, which was considered an also-ran in the consumer appliance business, to shift its focus to military contracting.

6.   And both have deserted the unproven consumer business almost entirely, instead refocusing themselves in the business-to-business market.

7.   And even as the consumer long-distance business has deteriorated, the wholesale business has become a lot less attractive.

8.   And some European consumer businesses may be on the block.

9.   And the retail consumer business is not in much better shape.

10.   And MCI acknowledged that its core consumer long-distance business had weakened.
