A slight tremor in these bursts betrays the presence of an invisible captive, a companion star so close that it orbits the X-ray pulsar every two hours. 7. A small telescope reveals a small companion star. 8. But the Sun, having no companion star, may lack the mechanism to make a spectacle of its decline and death. 9. If the idea of a companion star as eggbeater is correct, the shells of ejected solar gas would probably remain fairly spherical but luminous in many colors. 10.
