1.   The concentration range of deoxycholate used in these studies spans that normally found within the colonic lumen.

2.   The concentrations of nutrients used in these studies are substantially higher than those which would normally be seen in the colonic lumen.

3.   The positioning of the recording devices in the colonic lumen and cleansing of the bowel before pressure measurements remain non-standardized.

4.   Although olsalazine was the most potent inhibitor, in vivo measurements have shown that it is almost completely metabolised in the colonic lumen.

5.   In addition, a deficiency of short chain fatty acids in the colonic lumen can in itself change absorption of fluid.

6.   These provide excellent substrates for the generation of SCFA within the colonic lumen.
