1.   Eight of the children with neuropathy did not have constipation, diarhoea, or any other symptoms of colonic disease.

2.   Whether these values represent the upper extreme of normality or are related to the underlying colonic disease, long term medication, or other factors is not clear.

3.   Survival curve comparisons showed that colonic disease carried a worse prognosis than terminal ileal disease or mixed site disease.

4.   The highest mortality was among those who had had colonic disease for less than six years, although the CIs of the difference between survival proportions are wide.

5.   These findings also reflect the higher proportion of elderly patients with colonic disease.

6.   Stepwise regression analysis with stratification by age confirmed that colonic disease was the only variable that was significantly related to survival.

7.   The change was due to the greater proportion of patients with colonic disease, which in this study had a worse prognosis.
