1.   Asserting that he had been defamed, Lee Kuan Yew brought the civil libel suit that was settled Monday.

2.   At the time, civil libel actions did not menace that freedom.

3.   Earlier this year it was held guilty of contempt of court in Singapore in connection with that article and it is now defending a civil libel suit there.

4.   Someone who thinks his reputation has been unfairly damaged, in Taiwan or the United States, would ordinarily bring a civil libel action for damages.
