1.   Clottes said the cave in the Ardeche is startling for its unusual concentration of dangerous animals like lions, huge cave bears and rhinos.

2.   Dr. Blackwell said the dates were determined by analyzing enamel from five cave bear teeth found in the same sedimentary layer with the putative flute.

3.   Here and there the ground is studded with life-size cement footprints of cave bears and wolves.

4.   It has molded a landscape of boulders and springs, studded with images of the great animals, the bison, cave bears and reindeer that once roamed here.

5.   The scientists then compared the bone composition with that of European animals from the same time, including wolves, mammoths, arctic fox and cave bear.
