1. Patients were considered to have cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy if at least two of four cardiovascular tests were found to be pathological. 2. We have calculated potential correlations between any disturbed motor function and the presence or absence of cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy. 3. Gastric clearance of indigestible markers was significantly slower in patients with than in those without cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy. 4. In the present study, we could not detect a significant difference in orocaecal transit time between patients with and patients without cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy. 5. Colonic transit time was significantly longer in the patients with cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy. 6. The present study confirmed and extended previous observations that different gut motor functions can be impaired in diabetic patients with cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy. |
