1.   The fire was quickly extinguished, and the only damage to the building was broken windows and a blackened facade, the officials said.

2.   In the blackened facade of the building, one entire floor of which has been blasted away, the windows were nothing more than gaping holes.

3.   Behind them the bank building was a sorry sight, with blackened facades, empty windows, collapsed ceilings and twisted metal beams.

4.   State television showed pictures of blackened facades.
