1. Aisles of beige boxes stretch as far as the eye can see. 2. All the major PC makers are working on Internet-driven PCs that have been stripped of features that added cost and complexity to the traditional beige boxes. 3. Computer makers are already trading traditional, fully-loaded beige boxes for stylish designs that encase very basic, Internet-centric machines. 4. For that modest cost, I had a heavy beige box of batteries and circuitry that only six years before was the electronic crown of creation. 5. How else do you draw the attention of jaded technology buyers and reporters bored by the usual beige boxes and miniskirted models? 6. Instead of boring beige boxes, vendors were hyping small, wireless and Web-enabled devices. 7. It puts to shame all those beige boxes now sitting on store shelves. 8. New designs for PCs, inspired by the iMac and fueled by the development of flat screens, could spell the end of the beige box. 9. They called it a gumdrop, a gummy bear, the Bondi blue bubble that replaced the beige box. 10. Today, those beige boxes contain more information than most of us can imagine. |
