1.   There was a significant risk of tumours of the cardia for smokers, but alcohol did not appear to be a risk factor.

2.   Diseases in which alcohol appeared neither to increase or decrease risk of death included hemorrhagic stroke, colorectal cancer, pneumonia or respiratory diseases.

3.   Elderly people who drink alcohol heavily appear to have more brain shrinkage, or atrophy, than those who drink lightly or not at all.

4.   Troopers said alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
