1.   Republican Senator Frank Murkowski has introduced a bill to open up a huge Alaskan wildlife reserve to oil exploration.

2.   Alvin Amanson, who directs the native arts program at the university, is an Aleut painter from Kodiak known for modern expressionist portraits of Alaskan wildlife.

3.   And at least one senator, John Kerry, D-Mass., has said he will block any attempts to permit oil drilling in the Alaskan wildlife refuge.

4.   The Senate has not acted on the energy bill, which would permit drilling for oil and natural gas in an Alaskan wildlife refuge.
