61. If the wood comes out nice and new looking, you can apply two coats of a satin polyurethane varnish. 62. If you can stand a light gray fence, scrape and sand all the old paint and stain off, and apply one coat of a semitransparent stain. 63. If none of these works, sand the finish and apply two coats of a latex house paint. 64. If you decide to paint the shelves, a smoother and more durable finish can be achieved by applying a coat of sanding sealer to the wood before painting. 65. If the clapboards are in good shape, I suggest you apply two coats of a latex solid stain, not a paint, after heavy sanding. 66. If a thick coat is applied, it will fail. 67. If they clean up, you can apply two coats of a high-gloss or satin oil-based polyurethane varnish. 68. If you are reluctant to stop the sealing, then apply one coat of a semitransparent preservative stain. 69. If you have stained the shutters, you will want to apply a coat of clear varnish. 70.
