41.   Californians rejected gay marriage Tuesday, approving a ballot measure that prohibits the state from recognizing same-sex marriages legally performed in any other state.

42.   Gov. Rick Perry knew the spotlight was on the Texas criminal justice system when he vetoed a bill to prohibit the state from executing mentally retarded killers.
