The march of low pressure areas from the Gulf Coast to New England is a well-known track for winter storms, including some of the most powerful ever recorded. 43. The weather system moving across the basin Thursday and into today is a low pressure area dropping from the Gulf of Alaska that contains unseasonably cold air. 44. Wednesday, this low pressure area will take aim at the eastern Rockies and Plains, bringing the risk of severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and snow. 45. A cold front extending southward from that low pressure area brought rain to the East Coast before skies began to clear by late afternoon. 46. A high pressure area located over the central Atlantic continues to extend itself southwestward to the Bahamas and the Greater Antilles. 47. A high pressure area north of the region will continue to produce light to moderate east winds and generally dry weather through tonight. 48. A low pressure area rotating over northern Minnesota produced the wind and rain across sections of Nebraska, the eastern Dakotas, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. 49. A low pressure area was developing over New Mexico and expected to move into western Texas. 50. A low pressure area was expected to bring clouds and showers to the western Gulf Coast. |
