41. Removal of lead paint will be allowed, generally by hand tools or by power tools with vacuum attachments, but sandblasting is expressly forbidden for now. 42. Taxpayers are now paying for the health care of many children and the removal of lead paint from housing, particularly in older, urban neighborhoods. 43. That does not mean that all lead paint must be removed from apartments housing young children. 44. Surfaces that you suspect contain lead paint should be washed once a week with a high-phosphate cleaner such as a powdered dishwasher detergent. 45.
