31.   Aid workers say Zairian rebels are hindering the planned airlift of Rwandan refugees.

32.   An additional thousand Hutu refugees were able to escape the hold of Hutu militiamen in Masisi during reported fighting there between the militiamen and Rwandan-backed Zairian rebels.

33.   Amnesty International on Wednesday slammed Zairian rebels for alleged abuses against Rwandan refugees in eastern Zaire, and for thwarting their repatriation.

34.   As Rwandan Hutu militias began to flee Mugunga, advancing Zairian rebels swept through the sprawling camp.

35.   At least one Zairian rebel was wounded.

36.   At the time, Zairian rebels were fighting Zairian government troops in northeastern Zaire and dispersing Hutus in refugee camps around Goma.

37.   Both the Zairian rebels and the Rwandan military, which patrols on the Rwandan side of the border, want the refugees to go home.

38.   But concern over the remaining refugees has increased as Zairian rebels press their offensive aimed at toppling Mobutu.

39.   Burundi said the rebels have been chased from their bases in eastern Zaire by Zairian rebels.

40.   But it said it was not possible to check the situation on the ground because the Zairian rebels had cut off access to the camps.
