21.   Half the volunteers will receive the vaccine while the other half will be given a placebo.

22.   The volunteers will receive education and counseling to try to reduce the levels of HIV infection.

23.   The volunteers are receiving shots as part of a combination vaccine, including ALVAC manufactured by Aventis Pasteur of Lyon and AIDSVax made by VaxGen of San Francisco.

24.   Volunteers received free beer and hot dogs.
