11.   This hypothesis was tested by two ongoing trials of H pylori eradication treatment, one in patients with duodenal ulcer disease and the other in patients with intestinal metaplasia.

12.   The primary aim of the second trial was to see if eradication of H pylori led to resolution of intestinal metaplasia.

13.   Intestinal metaplasia in four or more biopsy specimens was the main criterion for inclusion in the study.
