11.   Currently, patients at risk of familial adenomatous polyposis undergo the ordeal of regular colonoscopic evaluation from early adulthood to middle age before the diagnosis can be confidently excluded.

12.   Familial adenomatous polyposis has only recently been shown by clinical and molecular studies to encompass the two conditions formerly known as Gardner syndrome and polyposis coli.
