11.   After parliament was disbanded, the king unilaterally extended the emergency by three months.

12.   Deuba has insisted that the emergency should be extended by another three months in order to completely crush the rebellion.

13.   Deuba refused to cave in, with close allies saying it was crucial that the emergency be extended in the interests of democracy, national independence and public security.

14.   Earlier this week parliament speaker, Tara Nath Ranabhatt, said there was not enough time to convene a new sesson to extend the emergency.

15.   The emergency was extended a day after it expired at midnight on Saturday.

16.   The government is also thinking of extending the emergency beyond three months, but it needs the support of parliament to do so.
