11.   If there is no overhang, you can install ventilated drip edges.

12.   If the roof already has an aluminum drip edge, the ice breakers can go on top of that.

13.   Install the new fascia and then slip a drip edge between the first course of shingles and the fascia.

14.   Make sure the covering piece overhangs the column enough to provide a drip edge, allowing water to drip away from the column, not down its face.

15.   My roofer said my shield is over the drip edge, which is wrong, and the cause of the leaks from ice dams.

16.   Of course, roof shingles should go on top of the shield and the drip edge.

17.   Once the drip edge is in place, it will stay.

18.   Or, slip the drip edge under the edge shingles, then install the fascia board under it.

19.   Subsequent ice buildup at drip edges and in gutters creates dams that cause water to back up under shingles and sometimes cascade into attics and down walls.

20.   That way the drip edge will fit right in.
