11. The government is setting up a commission to investigate apartheid-era political crimes and recommend amnesty for people who confess their roles. 12. A committee will also be set up to grant amnesty to those who confess their role in the gross human rights violations which characterised apartheid. 15. Scores of former senior security officers and intelligence agents are applying to the commission for amnesty and indemnity from prosecution in exchange for confessing their role in atrocities. 16. Several ex-policemen and military operatives have also approached the commission to confess their role in such crimes in exchange for an amnesty or indemnity from prosecution. 17. The commission is empowered to grant reparations to victims and amnesty to perpetrators providing they fully confess their role in such abuses. |
