He and several Caribbean leaders criticized U.S. pressure to end preferential trade without giving the island nations time to convert their production to other, more competitive products. 16. He plans a summit in Costa Rica with seven Central American leaders and a meeting with Caribbean leaders in Barbados before returning to Washington next Monday. 17. He will later visit Barbados for talks with Caribbean leaders before returning to Washington on Monday. 18. If they do lose the market, Caribbean leaders say it could set off a wave of immigration by residents seeking work in the United States. 19. Many Caribbean leaders agree that economic setbacks have left their nations particularly vulnerable to the drug trade. 20.
