6.   The Sharks took defenseman David Stuart from Regina of the Western League with the third pick.

7.   With the seventh pick, Montreal took defenseman Mike Komisarek.

8.   Last year they also took a defenseman, Bryan Berard, but were unable to sign him and eventually traded his rights to the New York Islanders.

9.   The Anaheim Mighty Ducks, selecting third overall, took defenseman Pascal Trepanier from the Colorado Avalanche.
